Pu Xian Temple (Samantabhadra Vihara)

Pu Xian Temple, JelutongPu Xian Temple, Jelutong (23 March 2013)

Pu Xian Temple (GPS: 5.38601, 100.31561) is a Buddhist temple in Jelutong, Penang. Also called Samantabhadra Vihara, it is located deep inside on Jalan Bukit Dumbar. The temple traces its beginnings to 1978, when two young boys, Tan Kooi Beng and Yeoh Chin Beng, decided to form a society to pay homage to the Buddha and the propagation of Buddhism.

Pu Xian Temple began as a humble structure built by the two boys. Over the years, their activities received the support of other Buddhists and well-wishers, resulting in the expansion of the premises as well as an increase in Buddhism-related activities.

Pu Xian Temple flanks both sides of Jalan Bukit Dumbar. On the left side is the Pu Xian Education Centre. Next to it is a shrine to a seated Buddha image. On the right side of the road is another shrine with a standing Buddha image alongside an emerald Buddha image.
