Quarry Drive, Penang (1 March 2009)
Persiaran Kuari, formerly
Quarry Drive, is a road in the
Jesselton Heights neighbourhood of
George Town, Penang. It is the road that goes through the
Penang Island City Park. Located on the western edge of town, it got its name from the sand quarrying that took place in the area. The road was built by the British for this purpose, and it included the bridge across
Sungai Air Terjun.
Today sand quarrying in the area is only a distant memory, and recreation replaces mining as the principal activity here. The stretch of Jalan Kuari from the
Jalan Utama junction to the
Lengkok Jesselton junction is a two-way street while the stretch from the Lengkok Jesselton junction to the
Jalan Kebun Bunga junction is a one-way street for traffic flowing from south to north.
