Rapid Penang Bus Stops range from a pole in the ground to sheltered stops and terminals. The main terminals on the island are the Jetty, Komtar and Balik Pulau terminals. A bus bay has also been created for Teluk Bahang, but this has not been improved to a proper terminal.

Quite a number of bus stops in Penang has also been improved. Although they do provide some shelter, they do not appear to have been constructed out of durable material such as concrete, instead they are built of glass, which doesn't appear long-lasting. Moreover, the glass surfaces are quickly soiled by the indiscriminate bill postings. I would recommend that the authorities consider building proper bus stops of concrete, and have walls that are difficult to paste anything on. These bus stops should also be well lit at night for security reasons.

Signages at many bus stops have improved. I notice this along the main road in Tanjong Tokong as well as the bus stops along Penang Road. In these selected stops, you get details on the different bus routes and frequency - which in my opinion is at best an estimation.

Frequency of buses is still too low to attract more commuters. Alas it's a chicken-and-egg situation, as the authorities are reluctant to invest in putting more buses on the roads without a higher passenger load, and few people are willing to take the bus unless the frequency improves.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
