In Penang, a "restaurant" is different from a "coffee shops" in the traditional sense, even though many Chinese coffee shops use the word "restaurant" in their names. Coffee shops have different individual hawker stalls selling different food items, with the shop proprietor managing the drinks, whereas with a "restaurant", the establishment sells both drinks and food.
Many of the outlets listed on this page are air-conditioned premises, even though some of these may still be serving the same type of food that you would find at the traditional coffee shops.
