Restoran Haniffa is a nasi kandar restaurant in Bayan Lepas, Penang. It has been around for over forty years, as my parents used to take me here for dinner when I was small. That was a long time ago. It was at Restoran Haniffa that I learned for the first time that Hindus are different from Indian Muslims.

Until then, I thought the Indians at the restaurant were Hindus, and wanted to know why beef was served. It was then that my father explained to me that the Indians running the restaurant were Muslims, and for the Muslims, consumption of beef was allowed.

Restoran Haniffa continue to exist today as it was before. Apart from nasi kandar, you can also get murtabak and nasi briyani here.

Getting there

The nearest bus stop is along Jalan Bayan Lepas, a short walking distance from the restaurant. The bus top is served by Rapid Penang bus 302, 305, 401 and 401E.
