Restoran Nasi Padang MinangRestoran Nasi Padang Minang (2 November 2013)

Nasi Padang Minang (GPS: 5.4212, 100.33069) is a very popular nasi padang stall in George Town, Penang. It has been operating out of Kedai Kopi International Hotel at Transfer Road for over forty years, and has attracted legions of enthusiastic diners. The restaurant offers nasi padang with a dazzling array of Minangkabau dishes.

Restoran Nasi Padang Minang begins operating around 11:00 am in the morning. Although I have known of this nasi padang stall for a very long time, I only began eating here in the past two weeks. Both my wife and I were immediately hooked, and in that short two weeks, we have been there four times! Now we know to go early because the coffee shop becomes absolutely packed with patrons. Most diners end up having to share tables but nobody seem to mind that. Of the four times we were there, we bought back twice.

In our opinion, Nasi Padang Minang is good value for money. Yes, some of the large items such as their delicious deep-fried ikan sumbat sambal (which is cincaru, or mackerel, stuffed with sambal and deep-fried shallots) costs as much as RM7.00, but vegetable dishes are quite cheap. We love the authenticity of the food. Not only that, the people who run this restaurant know how to cook each dish to perfection. Apart from the ikan sumbat, our other favourite dishes include the nangka curry, the chicken masak rempah and the ulam.

Lunch at Nasi Padang Minang, 16 Sept 2014

Details

8 February, 2014 We again visited Nasi Padang Minang, but rather than eating there, we bought home. We got the wonderful grilled catfish, a piece of chicken, the ulam, the nangka, one slice of eggplant, one salted duck egg and two plates of rice. For that spread, we only paid RM22.00. To us, that is a good price for the amount of food provided. We brought it home and had a very nice lunch at home.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
