Restoran Satu Sembilan Sembilan Lapan (GPS: 5.39842, 100.28877) is a hawker centre at Farlim, in Air Itam, Penang. It is located on the ground floor at Fortune Court.

Today we went to Air Itam for look for dinner. The coffee shop we had intended to visit was closed, so on searching around, we ended up at Restoran Satu Sembilan Sembilan Lapan. We were a bit early, and saw that the hawker centre was only half filled. Nevertheless parking was difficult, as most of the available parking slots have been snapped up.
This is the first time I am eating here. Looking through the stalls, we saw the among the food available include koay teow thng, wan than mee, char hor fun, Hokkien char, char ee mee, Singapore char, Indian banana leaf rice, jawa mee, chicken porridge, chicken rice, fish head curry, fish head bee hoon and tomyam seafood, among others.
I decided to order the Indian banana leaf rice while my wife opted for the Char Hor Fun. This is how the two dishes look like:

Char Hor Fun, Restoran Satu Sembilan Sembilan Lapan (5 October 2014)At the Banana Leaf Rice stall, you choose from a selection of dishes, much the same way as would a nasi kandar stall. I chose half a salted duck egg, a piece of fried fish and spicy sayur rumi. I asked the hawker to give me its selection of gravy.
I also had a chance to try the char hor fun that my wife ordered. She said it is below her standard, and the aroma is not that nice. On the other hand, trying it, I thought the char hor fun was "not too bad". Not the best but I have certainly tasted worse. In fact, I quite like the taste, although it could have been improved if the hor fun is slightly crispy (for that's the way I like it).
The Banana Leaf Rice was not too bad either. Again, not particularly outstanding, but also not one that I would find a reason to condemn.
