Kampung Buffet, Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La Penang (21 February 2020)
Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La Penang has just launched its new Kampung Buffet. My wife and I were pleased to join members of the local social media community in experiencing this new fare. In addition to tasting the various village treats, we also played a game of the most creative way of donning the sarong.
The Kampung Buffet takes place very Friday at the resort's main dining outlet, Garden Café. The buffet features a mouth-watering spread of traditional local dishes including the kambing guling (roast lamb), special kampung chicken, appetising local ulam and a wide array of fresh salads to whet the appetite.
There are ten food stations each manned by designated chefs who are specialists of its respective cuisine and style. During our visit, Chef Mohd Rizal gave us a demonstration of making asam pedas, a spicy Malay fish curry with herbs such as daun kesom and torchginger flower.
At the main food station, there are various savoury items including ayam rendang minang, stir-fried beef with celery, udang masak lemak cili padi dan nenas, nasi kukus daun pandan, mi goreng basah bersama makanan laut, and of course, the asam pedam ikan pari dan bendi.
Pricing and Reservations
The Kampung Buffet is priced at RM118 nett per adult and RM59 nett per child, every Friday on 6:30pm to 10:00pm. For enquiries and reservations, call Golden Sands Resort, Penang on (60 4) 886 1911.
Now let me show you the various dishes we enjoyed.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
