It is once again the fasting month. This year, Sunway Hotel Georgetown is doing its Ramadhan Buffet beginning on Wednesday, 8 June, 2016. The theme this year is Flavours of Mak Tok, evocating memories of traditional food passed down the generations from yesteryear.
My wife and I have the pleasure of tasting the dishes whipped up by Sunway's culinary team that includes Sous Chef Wee and Assistant Pastry Chef Huzaimi. There is a lot of food, so much that the dishes are arrayed both inside and outside the dining hall.

I went through the buffet aisles looking at what is available. Wow, there's one whole roasted leg of lamb. Next to it, there are different types of deep-fried kuih.
On the other side of the entrance hall are various types of hawker food including roti canai, char koay teow and mee rebus. Just inside the dining hall, there's various salted items, such as salted egg yolk and different types of salted dish, arranged in neet baskets overlaid with banana leaves. Next to it, there's different types of crackers and greens, or ulam, and different types of sambal, held in mortars.
On the next table, I saw various types of kerabu. And then, arrayed right across the dining all, are all the main dishes. There's udang mentega (butter prawns), kacang botol goreng (stir-fried wingbean), ayam masak merah (chicken in red curry), gulai kambing (mutton curry), telur masam manis (sweet-and-sour egg), daging kurma (beef kurma), pageri nenas (pineapple curry), sambal sotong (curry squid) and daging rendang tok (granny's beef rendang).
And we are not done. On the central food island, there's a broth called bubur lambuk, and next to it, a soup, called sup tepian bendang. On the far wall, there are all sorts of beverages (I drank plain water and teh tarik that evening). And finally, different types of dessert are lined up on the side wall, including all sorts of kuihs and puddings.
The Sunway Hotel Georgetown's Ramadhan Buffet Dinner is priced at RM58 nett per person for adults, and RM38 nett for children and senior citizens. Certainly well worth it, if you are a big eater.
On this side, I found various ulam, sambal and keropok. (8 June 2016)
Various salted fish and salted eggs. I am not sure if all the fish are salted, but I took the one on the right, and it was salted! (8 June 2016)

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
