I had the pleasure of being one of the first people to patronize Roselle when I visited it the day after the soft opening. I didn't have much, just a cup of cappucino, when I met up with Lexis Director of Sales & Marketing, Miss Wong Hua Ying. After that, we went on a hotel tour so that I can get to know the various facilities and visit the rooms.

I had the pleasure of visiting the coffee house the day after the hotel's soft opening, and two days later, I sat down to a lunch there with the Sales & Marketing Director for Lexis Suites Penang, Ms Wong Hua Ying.

Considering Teluk Kumbar is famous for its mee udang, I decided to try out Roselle's version of it. Ms Wong ordered the char koay teow. To my surprise both dishes came topped with a slipper lobster each. If I'm not mistaken, each dish has a price tag of RM25, so we weren't sure whether the slipper lobster is a usual fare. We even called the chef out to reconfirm. The chef was a young man, and he confirmed that yes, both dishes are served with slipper lobster.
For hotel food, the mee udang is excellent. It has a wonderful aroma, though I observed that the gravy is not quite enough. When I commented on that, they immediately brought out an extra cup of gravy for me. Ah, excellent service. Hua Ying let me try a bit of her char koay teow and it was also good.

After we have finished our lunch, Hua Ying want me to try their desserts. According to her, they have gotten an award-winning dessert chef, a young man by the name of Chef Beh. Chef Beh proceeded to create for us two different types of dessert. One is a mango dessert in a tall dessert glass. Inside is sago and glutinous rice ball. The dessert is topped with a chocolate stick, blueberries and halfed strawberry.

The other dessert is a chocolate ball. It is chocolate encasing vanilla ice cream. On top of the chocolate is some gold foil. The waitress then pours hot vanilla over the ball. The effect is a combination of sweet, crunchiness and softness. It is an exquisite dessert which I enjoyed very much.

After my meal, they invited the dessert chef to come out and meet me. Chef Beh is a young, jovial man who is a joy to meet. It was a lot of fun listening to him talking excitedly about his various dessert creations.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
