"Roti Benggali" Sculpture, King Street

Roti Benggali SculptureRoti Benggali Sculpture (30 March 2013)

The "Roti Benggali" Sculpture (GPS: 5.41728, 100.33947) is a steel-rod sculpture installed in King Street, George Town. It depicts the seller of Indian loaves, or Roti Benggali, with a customer. As the seller attempts to remove the crust of the bread, his knife accidentally poke on the customer's sarong.

I am surprised to learn that Roti Benggali got its name from the word "penggali", which means "shareholders" in Tamil. I had always thought that it was named after the Bengalese.
