Samye Drodul Ling Monastery, Sungai Ara, Penang (22 December 2016)
Samye Drodul Ling Monastery (GPS: 5.30355, 100.26532) is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in the
Sungai Ara neighbourhood of
Bayan Lepas, Penang. It is located along
Jalan Rajawali, at the corner of
Solok Rajawali 4. The monastery was under construction since 2013, and was finally completed in January, 2017.
The main temple building of Samye Drodul Ling Monastery is a two-storey structure of Tibetan architecture. A pillared porch surrounds the ground floor. The building is ornately embellished with colourful decorative elements, much of which gilded. At each corner of the bargeboard is a stylised Tibetan prayer wheel. The roof finials are in the form of a gilded dragon or mystical beast.
A white wall, with red pillars at regular intervals, surrounds the Samye Drodul Ling Monastery. The main entrance, which faces Jalan Rajawali, has an intricately embellished archway. The gate is a double door with the Buddhist wheel emblem.
