Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Tanjong (GPS: 5.42155, 100.32783
) is a primary school in
George Town, Penang. It is located on Hutton Lane. Despite its rather low profile today, the school has a long history going back to the 19th century, when it was founded as the Chowrasta Malay School (Sekolah Melayu Chowrasta) in 1878. Its original located was at the junction of
Transfer Road and
Phee Choon Road, where the
Penang Police Contingent Headquarters is now located.
The Chowrasta Malay School relocated to its present site at Hutton Lane in 1936. There has been little change in terms of the buildings of the school since then. In 1966, the school added four classes to cater to children who are hearing challenged. The school changed its name to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Tanjong in 1970. In August, 1987, the school for the hearing challenge was separated and put under a different administration.
