Sekolah Pendidikan Khas (GPS: 5.45879, 100.28042) is a special school in Penang for children who are deaf. It is located on Jalan Lembah Permai in Tanjong Bungah. The school was originally called the Federaton School for the Deaf, and is the pioneer schoo for hearing challenged children.
Sekolah Pendidikan Khas was established in 1954. Two year earlier, a medical specialist by the name of Dr C. Elaine Field arrived in Penang and found that there wasn't a school catering to the needs of the deaf. Dr Field met with Lady Templer, the wife of Sir Gerald Templer, the British High Commissioner in Malaya, and suggested the idea of establishing such a school. Lady Templer took up the initiative to establish one, and the Federation School for the Deaf was established in 1954, originally at Northam Road.
The site on Jalan Lembah Permai was bought by the school in 1963, at a cost of just 65 cents per square foot. The land was sold to the school by the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew, who sponsored 15 cents per square foot of the cost. The Ministry of Rural Development Malaya provided RM500,000 towards the construction of the school buildings.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
