Simon Tan's Ah Kong Mural at Pinang's Pinang Art Gallery (16 November 2013)


The Ah Kong Mural at Pinang's Pinang Art Gallery (GPS: 5.41564, 100.32667) is one in a series of Ah Kong murals by Penang artist Simon Tan. It was completed on the evening of 15 November, 2013. I managed to visit the painting and spoke with Simon the day after.

Simon has just taken over Pinang's Pinang. He is adding the Ah Kong mural on the wall of the gallery, to the left of the Nostalgic Meal Order by Louis Gan. Simon intends to paint a few more mural with the Ah Kong mural at various locations, including one in Balik Pulau.

The Ah Kong mural at Pinang's Pinang depicts a jovial grandfather sharing a happy moment with his grand daughter. Other murals of the series will depict either of the grandparents (or both), with either of the grandchildren.
