Simon Tan's Murals

Simon Tan is a popular Penang artist noted for his paintings of scenes in Penang. He has held numerous exhibitions since 1991, including his own solo exhibition at the Penas Art Gallery in 1996.

Over the years, Tan has received a number of awards related to his art, among them the Tanjung Heritage Art Award (2007) and Cornucopia of Malaysia, Excellent Award (1996). Tan is a member of the Penang Art Society and Penang State Museum & Art Gallery. Some of its artworks are displayed at Bank Negara Malaysia, Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah and B Braun Penang and Germany.

In April 2013, Simon Tan executed his first mural at Chew Jetty. It was entitled Ah Kong & Ah Mah. The mural was vandalised shortly after its completion. Despondent over the treatment given to the mural, Tan decided to paint over the piece. The second mural at Chew Jetty, entitled Ah Mah & Ah Soon, was completed later that same month.
