Sin Nam Huat at Queens Hall (10 May 2015)

There is a
Sin Nam Huat Chicken & Rice Stall at Queens Hall, the food court on the 3rd floor of Queensbay Mall. As Sin Nam Huat at Gottlieb Road is my wife's favourite chicken rice stall, we were quite pleased when we stumbled on a Sin Nam Huat chicken rice stall within Queensbay Mall itself. We each ordered a plate of the chicken rice with the braised egg. We wanted to order the salted vegetable soup too, but it was not ready.
We found that the chicken rice of Sin Nam Huat at Queens Hall is a lot more expensive than if we had eaten the same thing at a Sin Nam Huat coffee shop. Also, the rice is much less aromatic compared to having it in their coffee shop. Also, the amount of chicken provided was very little. See the photo below (which I shot using my smart phone instead of my usual camera).
Sin Nam Huat at Queens Hall (10 May 2015)

With GST, the Chicken Rice was RM8.37 per plate, while the Braised Egg was RM1.59 each. That's RM19.90 for two persons. On top of that, we ordered an extra bowl of rice, and that cost RM1.60 (RM1.59 with GST and rounded up to the nearest sen). Nevertheless, judging from the number of chicken and duck they have hanging at their Queens Hall stall, I believe they are doing a roaring business there.
Nothing at Queens Hall is cheap. The kopi-o peng was RM3.30 while the water chestnut drink was RM4.00. I don't think I should be enormously surprised at the prices of food and drinks at a food court.
We only ate there because we were at Queensbay Mall, and thus it was the most convenient place to eat. Otherwise, we would have opted to have our meal at a proper Sin Nam Huat coffee shop. I suppose Sin Nam Huat would like us to believe that their chicken rice tastes the same at all their shops, but I don't think so.
