111 Somerset (GPS: 1.30019, 103.83734) is a commercial property in Singapore. It comprises two office towers on a retail podium. The building is at Somerset Road, in the Orchard Planning Area, in Postal District 9. The design, which reflects the Brutalist architecture style that was fashionable at its time, was the result of a design competition held in July 1971. The building was completed in 1977 at a cost of S$32 million. It was originally the Public Utilities Board Building (PUB Building).
On 1 October 1995, the building was renamed the Singapore Power Building following the corporatisation of the electicity and gas operations, which created Singapore Power. The PUB moved out on 29 January 2007, when it relocated to its parent ministry, the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, at the Environment Building on Scotts Road. YTL Corporation bought the building through its subsidiary YTL Pacific Star in February 2008, and renamed it 111 Somerset, after its address.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
