Adis Road is a minor road in
Rochor, Singapore. It connects
Sophia Road with Mount Sophia. The road was named after Jewish businessman Nissim Nassim Adis, who had his mansion called Adis Lodge atop Mount Sophia.
1. Adis found success in property investments and was the proprietor of the Grand Hotel de l'Europe, once considered on the grandest hotels in Singapore.
2 In addition to Adis Road,
Nassim Hill and
Nassim Road were also named after him (or, to be more precise, to Nassim Lodge, a property belonging to him.
In 1907, Adis commissioned the construction of Adis Lodge, a magnificent mansion situated at the top of Mount Sophia. Designed by architects Tomlinson and Lermit, the lodge featured eight bedrooms, each equipped with a dressing room and a bathroom with running hot and cold water - a luxury at the time. The mansion also included a well-appointed billiard room, spacious verandahs, and a beautifully furnished dining room. Adis Lodge was regarded as one of the most magnificent mansions east of the Suez.
2
In 1912, just five years after its completion, Adis sold the lodge to
Eu Tong Sen, a prominent businessman known as the "king of tin." Eu Tong Sen replaced Adis Lodge with an even more grandiose residence, Eu Villa, in 1915. Eu Villa stood until the early 1980s, when it was demolished.

Another notable landmark on Adis Road was the Nan Hwa Girls' School. Established in 1917 by philanthropist Xiong Shangfu, the school moved to a new building on Adis Road in 1941. Designed in the Art Deco style, the three-story building featured formal symmetry and functional design, with double corridors lining both sides of the classrooms to aid air circulation. The school remained at this location until 1982, when it relocated to Clementi Avenue 1.

Today, Adis Road is primarily a residential area, featuring developments such as Sophia Student Hostel, Sophia Mansion, Sophia Apartments, and Adis Villas.
