Bugis+, Singapore (8 July 2011)
Bugis+ (GPS: 1.29958, 103.85421), pronounced Bugis Plus, is a shopping mall in the Bugis area of Singapore. Formerly known as Iluma, it occupies a 8921 sq meter city block bounded by
Victoria Street, Cheng Yan Place,
Queen Street and Manila Street. Bugis+ is also connected with
Bugis Junction by an overhead pedestrian bridge across Victoria Street.
Bugis+ features a crystal mesh façade that appears to be illuminated at random. It is said to be the largest permanent media façades to have been installed, a technology that was created for the mall by WOHA Architects (Singapore) and realities:united (Berlin).
Bugis+ shopping mall is geared towards young urban professionals. The store selection is heavy towards fashion, food & beverage, and entertainment. Unusual for a shopping mall, it does not seem to have an anchor department store.
