Cashin Street is a minor road in the Bras Basah area of Singapore. It measures just around 110 metres in length. The road connects North Bridge Road to a junction with Carver Street and Miller Street.

According to Singapore Street Names, Cashin Street was named after Joseph William Cashin (1844-1907), a lawyer's clerk serving several lawyers at that time. Investing in opium farms and landed property, he rose to become one of the first Eurasian millionaires of Singapore.1

Historically, Cashin Street has been part of Singapore's urban landscape since at least the mid-20th century. A 1969 photograph captures a two-storey house on Cashin Street, featuring wooden casement windows with canopies.3

Over the decades, the area has undergone significant redevelopment. Notably, the Bras Basah Complex, a mixed-use development, now stands in the vicinity, replacing older structures and contributing to the modernization of the neighborhood.4

In terms of accessibility, Cashin Street is well-connected by Singapore's public transportation network. The nearest Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations include Bencoolen (DT21) on the Downtown Line, approximately a 6-minute walk away, and Esplanade (CC3) on the Circle Line, about a 7-minute walk. Several bus stops are also located nearby, providing convenient access to various parts of the city.5 Today, Cashin Street reflects Singapore's blend of historical charm and urban development, offering insight into the city's architectural evolution.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.

To get to know me better, do follow me on Facebook!
