Cheang Wan Seng Place is a short no-through-road in downtown Singapore. It is located within the Raffles Place subzone of the Downtown Core, within Postal District 01. The road connects on the one end to Cross Street. It is a service road for the buildings in the area which includes the Manulife Tower, IOB Building, TPI Building and ISCA House.
According to Singapore Street Names1, Cheang Wan Seng Place was named after 19th century tycoon Cheang Hong Lim's (1825-1893) company, Chop Wan Seng. Cheang, whose name Hong Lim lives on in various properties in Singapore, including Hong Lim Complex and Hong Lim Green, established a school here. The road was called in Hokkien as 酒廊邊 (Taiji: Ciu1 Long1 Pni1 ; Church Romanisation: chiú-lóng-piⁿ, Taiwanese Romanisation: tsiú-lóng-pinn). According to What's in the Name2, Cheang Wan Seng Place became a public street in 1901.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
