Chin Kang Huay Kuan, Singapore (7 July 2011)
Chin Kang Huay Kuan (GPS: 1.27927, 103.84053) is a Chinese clan association in
Singapore. It occupies a 4-storey building on
Bukit Pasoh Road, in the Chinatown subzone of Outram planning area. The association was established in 1918, and thus celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018, when it donated 600 heritage material to the National Library Board.
Chin Kang Huay Kuan is a Hokkien clan association. It was established by male immigrants from Chin Kang 晋江 county of
Fujian Province, China. Its earlier premises on Bukit Pasoh Road once housed the Overseas Chinese Mobilisation Council, comprising those who are fighting to defend Singapore against Japanese invasion. In retaliation for the local resistance, the Japanese forced turned the building into a "comfort house" to serve the Japanese troops. By the time the clan got its premises back, after the way, all its records and important documents have been destroyed, thus compelling the members to start anew by re-registering themselves.
The present building of the Chin Kang Huay Kuan dates to 2005.
