Downtown Line of the Singapore MRT is the fifth mass rapid transit train line in Singapore. Construction of this line began on 12 February 2008, and Stage 1 of the line opened to commuters on 22 December, 2013 while Stage 2 began operations on 27 December, 2015. Two more stages are under construction, with Stage 3 opened on 21 October, 2017, and an extension of Stage 3 in 2025.

The first stage of the Downtown Line is planned to commence in 2013, the second in 2015 and the third on 20 October, 2017. The Downtown Line is colour coded dark blue.

The Straits Times reports Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wah saying today that commuters existing the MRT stations to transfer from one line to another will soon not have to pay a second boarding charge. He said this at the opening of Downtown Line 3, the third phase of that line.
