Ee Hoe Hean Club (GPS: 1.27947, 103.84043) is a Chinese millionaires' club in Singapore. It occupies an ornate 3-storey building at Bukit Pasoh Road, in the Chinatown subzone of Outram planning area.
Ee Hoe Hean Club traces its founding to 1895. Its founders were Lim Nee Soon, Gan Eng Seng and Lim Boon Keng. It was the meeting place of the wealth-to-do in turn of the century Singapore. The founders and club members were mostly those who made it big in the Nanyang, and held the Qing Dynasty government of China in contempt. For that reason, they actively supported the 1911 Xinhai Revolution, which led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty, ushering in the founding of the Republic of China.
Originally located at Duxton Hill, Ee Hoe Hean Club moved to its present site at Bukit Pasoh Road in 1925. The clubhouse was rebuilt in 2006 at a cost of S$2.5million and officially opened on 9 November 2008 by the Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. It continues to display its original construction year of 1927.
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
