Enak (GPS: 1.32045, 103.93555) is a hawket stall at the Blk 16, Bedok South Food Centre. It is operated by a Peranakan Singaporean, Mr Desmond Theo, who runs the stall with his family.
Desmond's stall specialises in nasi ambeng, a Javanese-style set meal comprising white rice surrounded by a variety of dishes that may include curry chicken (or meat), vegetable salad, tempeh, spicy brinjal, pickled vegetables, beansprouts, sambal and salted duck egg. Other items may include begedil and sambal cuttlefish. All the items are arrayed on a large tray, or dulang, overlaid with banana leaves.
The single dulang is S$6.50. For 2 persons, it is S$17, and four 4 persons, S$34. I pointed to Desmond that his single dulang is cheaper than the shared dulang for 2 and 4 persons. He told me that for the shared dulang, there are additional dishes like sotong, salted egg and rendang. For the single dulang, the diner chooses either chicken or rendang, without sotong and salted egg. The dish for 2 and 4 persons are similar.
I visited Enak on 2 August, 2017, just before my flight back to Penang. By the time my friend KF Seetoh brought me to this stall, I have already had my lunch. Nevertheless, Desmond was so kind to pack some for me to take home. Unfortunately, it did not survive the flight, as the rice has soured by the time I opened the pack. Nevertheless, I promised myself that I will return one day, with my wife, to enjoy Desmond's nasi ambeng.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
