How to use the EZ-Link Card, Singapore

EZ-Link is a contactless smart card that you can use to pay for your rides on the Singapore MRT and buses. It can also be used on the In-Vehicle Unit for the the Electronic Road Pricing. The card was introduced in 2001. Today there are some 10 million EZ-Link cards in circulation, more than the whole population of Singapore.

You can buy the EZ-Link cards at all the MRT stations and at certain kiosks. The card for adults costs S$15, including a S$5 non-refundable card cost and a S$10 stored value.

To use the card when riding the MRT trains and the buses, simply tap your card on the entry card reader, and again at the exit reader when you disembark. If you forgot to tap the exit reader when you get off the bus, you will be charged the maximum fare payable for the entire bus journey.

This is how the card reader looks like on the bus:

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
