Fort Canning Centre (9 July 2006)
Fort Canning Centre is the name given to the imposing 65-year old British Army barracks that occupied a slope on
Fort Canning. The building was built in the 1920s to protect British interests in the region. Today it is restored and used as home of the Singapore Dance Theatre, functioning as a venue for major cultural events. It is also the home for Singapore's modern performing arts companies including Singapore Dance Theatre and Theatreworks. Within Fort Canning Centre is the 100-seat Black Box theatre. At time of writing, it is occupied by the
Singapore Pinacothèque de Paris.
