Henderson Road is a major road in the
Bukit Merah Planning Area, Singapore. It runs right through the area from north to south. It runs from
Alexandra Road, across from Prince Charles Crescent, in the north to
Telok Blangah Road in the south. It forms intersections with
Tiong Bahru Road and
Jalan Bukit Merah. The
Ayer Rajah Expressway crossed below it while the
Henderson Waves Bridge crosses above it. Roads forming junction to Henderson Road include Henderson Crescent, Bukit Merah View, Bukit Merah Central, Depot Road, Telok Blangah Way, Telok Blangah Green, Telok Blangah Heights and Telok Blangah Drive.
According to
Singapore Street Names, Henderson Road was named after a businessman, George Henderson, who has business dealings with Jardine Matherson & Co as well as James Brooke of Sarawak. In addition to Henderson Road, Henderson Crescent was also named after him. There were other roads too, Henderson Avenue, Henderson Square and Henderson Walk, all named in 1952. However, these roads have since been expunged.
