Hock Kee Wanton Noodle (GPS: 1.36718, 103.84002) is a popular hawker stall at Kebun Baru Food Centre in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. My friend Evonne brought me here to try the wanton mee, which she likes very much. It was a fun trip and made even more fun because two of Evonne's friends, Bee Chan and Brian, have decided to join us as well.

On arriving at the stall, I saw a very long queue for the wanton noodle. Wow, this must be a very popular stall. Evonne ordered for us to try the dry-style wanton mee, the sui kao (prawn dumpling) soup and braised chicken feet - all de rigueur wanton noodle stall items. It was a very nice meal, although, slightly not warm enough anymore by the time we ate it, no fault of the hawker by our own, as I spent so much time taking photos of the wanton mee. The noodle is springy, or as well call it in cooking terms, al dente. This springiness comes from not overcooking the noodle, which would then make it soft.

I like my wanton noodle with sweet black soya sauce, whereas Evonne like us light coloured. Nevertheless I still enjoyed the wanton noodle here, even though not with sweet black soya sauce, because the noodle itself is so nicely done. For comparison sake, Evonne also brought over the wanton noodle and sui kao soup from another stall, Tanjong Rhu Wanton Noodle, from Block 226B nearby. After trying both, I think I prefer the one from Tanjong Rhu, because the sui kao and its soup are more agreeable to my taste.

Hock Kee Wanton Noodle is just one of our many food stops that day, so, even though the noodle is tasty, I was forced to pace myself and not to finish the whole plate of it. As far as appearance goes, it looks exactly like the wanton mee in Penang.

I saw that the wanton noodle is selling for just S$3 per plate, which in my opinion is very reasonable (if you compare ringgit to S$) as you would be hard-pressed to find wanton noodle at RM3 on Penang Island these days.

We also ordered the wanton mee from another stall (but I couldn't remember the name of that stall) and tried both, for comparison. To be honest, I found the wanton mee from that stall to be just as good.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
