Jubilee Bridge, Singapore (28 July 2017)
Jubilee Bridge (GPS: 1.28773, 103.85434) is a pedestrian bridge in the Singapore Esplanade. It links the promenade in front of
Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay to
Merlion Park. The 220-meter bridge was named after the Jubilee Anniversary of the founding of Singapore in 1965.
The idea to construct the Jubilee Bridge was proposed by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who observed that the existing walkway along the
Esplanade Bridge was too narrow for pedestrians, and suggested that another bridge be built for pedestrians across the
Singapore River. Unfortunately Mr Lee passed away before the bridge could be opened to the public. Nevertheless its opening was moved forward by a month, to 31 March, 2015, in order to allow Singaporeans to bid farewell to Mr Lee.
