Kranji MRT Station, Singapore (29 July 2017)
Kranji MRT Station (GPS: 1.42522, 103.76207; NS7) is a station of the
Singapore MRT served by the
North-South Line. This above-ground station is located between the
Yew Tee MRT Station and the
Marsiling MRT Station. It began operations on 10 February, 1996.
Kranji is located in Singapore Postal
District 24.
The Kranji MRT Station serves the workers of the surrounding industrial estates such as Sungei Kadut. There was an initial plan for this station to serve a future KTM Railway Station which Singapore had proposed to be sited in its vicinity. That plan has since been shelved indefinitely due to disagreement with malaysia over the relocation of the
KTM Railway Station from Tanjong Pagar.
The Kranji MRT Station is prone to sudden high influx of commuters, especially during racing days, as it is located near the Singapore Turf Club. To facilitate quite passenger processing, the station is installed with a high number of fare gates.
