Lavender Street, Singapore (26 July 2017)
Lavender Street is a street in
Kallang,
Singapore. It connects
Balestier Road, at the intersection with
Serangoon Road, in the north, with
Crawford Street, at the intersection with
Kallang Road. The road dates back to 8 March, 1858, at a time when the area was covered with Chinese vegetable gardens. The area was smelly from the nightsoil used by the farmers, but the residents called the place lavender, out of sarcasm
1. The municipality somehow accepted that name, and the road became known as Lavender Street.
