Marina Barrage, Singapore

The Marina Barrage is a dam across the Marina Channel in Singapore. It is located between the reclaimed lands of Marina East and Marina South, and was officially opened on 1 November 2008. The purpose of Marina Barrage, which cost S$226 million, was to turn Marina Bay and the Kallang Basin into a downtown freshwater catchment, the Marina Reservoir.

The Marina Reservoir is the 15th reservoir in Singapore. It is also the largest and most urbanised catchment in the island nation. It will provide water supply while at the same time control flood in downtown Singapore, by controlling the tide flow into the barrage. In addition, it is planned to become another attraction.

As a result of the construction of Marina Barrage, Clifford Pier ceased operation, and a new pier called Marina South Pier was built to replace it.

The public may visit Marina Barrage at any time of the day, but if they wish to join the guided tours, there are five tours on Mondays to Fridays, at 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 1:00 pm, 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm, and three tours on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 11:00 am, 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm. There is a bus shuttle service between the Marina Bay MRT Station and Marina Barrage.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
