Marina East, Singapore
Marina East (GPS: 1.29127, 103.8709) is a 140-hectare piece of reclaimed land in
Singapore. Originally part of the
New Downtown, it was eventually developed into a separate planning area.
Marina East extends south from the headland called
Tanjong Rhu. The East Coast Parkway separates it from the rest of Tanjong Rhu. A major infrastructure development in this area is a new expressway, the
Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), which will pass through
Marina East to connect with
Marina South and
Straits View, via an undersea tunnel to the south of Marina Barrage.
Apart from the expressway, much of Marina East is occupied by the NTUC Club golf course. This is talk that when the lease on the golf course expires, the land will be used to develop a Disney theme park. At time of writing (August 2012), nothing much has materialized.
