Masjid Haji Muhammad Salleh, Singapore (27 July 2017)
Masjid Haji Muhammad Salleh (GPS: 1.27282, 103.84733) is a mosque in downtown Singapore. It perches on a knoll - which is Mount Palmer or Bukit Palmer - between Palmer Road and the Keppel Viaduct. The hill was originally the height of a 13-storey building.
1 Within the compound of the mosque are two shrines to Muslim saints,
Keramat Habib Noh and Keramat Habib Abdul Rahman.
Masjid Haji Muhammad Salleh was named after a Javanese merchant who hailed from Batavia (present-day Jakarta) in the late 19th century. After the death of his friend Habib Noh, Hajid Muhammad Salleh donated the piece of land on Mount Palmer for the construction of the mosque, and a shrine to his friend Habib Noh was located there.
In July, 2017, a S$1.46million renovation on the mosque was completed, and it was reopened for Friday prayers on 21 July of that month. Among the new features and upgrades included a toilet for the disabled, a platform lift and a glass canopy to expand on the prayer space, to accommodate a total of 700 worshippers. The Minister of Communications and Information, Mr Yaacob Ibrahim, officiated in the reopening of the mosque.
