Maybank Tower (GPS: 1.28584, 103.85234) is a skyscraper in the Central Business District of Singapore. It is located at 2
Battery Road. The skyscraper is 32 storeys tall and has a height of 175.26 m (575 ft). It was completed in 2002.
Maybank Tower is the main Singapore office of the Malaysia-based Maybank. It comprises a 6-storey podium and a tower that tapers to appear as a bamboo shoot. The façade is clad in double-glaced blue reflective glass and aluminium curtain wall panels.
On 18 September, 2010, a fire was reported on the building. It was discovered by a patrolling security guard. The fire damaged two letters of the bank logo. There were no injuries or structural damage to the building.
The site of Maybank Tower has been previously occupied by Malayan Banking, the precursor of Maybank. Before that, it was the site of the British-era department store, Whiteaways, which also has branches in other cities of the Malay Peninsula - the
Whiteaways Building in Penang, for example, is still standing, and is today one of the historic buildings in the
George Town World Heritage Site.
