North Canal Road, Singapore (28 July, 2017)
North Canal Road is a road in downtown
Singapore. It connects
New Bridge Road/
Eu Tong Sen Street in the west to
Circular Road in the east. The road can be broken down into two sections. The western section between New Bridge Road and the
South Bridge Road intersection has two way traffic while the eastern section from South Bridge Road to Circular Road has eastbound traffic - and that's because westbound traffic is carried by South Canal Road.
North Canal Road was so named because it used to be the road located to the
north of Singapore Canal, across the canal from South Canal Road. The canal, which emptied into the
Singapore River, has long been filled up, enabling both North and South Canal Roads to be widened, and allowing for a wide road divider in between.
