NS Square (GPS: 1.28829, 103.85895) is a floating platform on Marina Bay in Singapore. It was built in 2007 as a temporary measure for National Day Parade, when the National Stadium was demolished and rebuilt. Measuring 120 meters (394 ft) by 83 meters (272 ft), it is the largest floating stage in the world. It also includes a grandstand or seating gallery that can accommodate 27,000 spectators.
The history of NS Square goes back to 2004, when plans were afoot to find an alternative venue to host the National Day Parade, considering the National Stadium was about to be demolished and rebuilt, as part of the new Singapore Sports Hub. After a few possible venues were considered, the National Day Parade organising committee settled on Marina Bay, so that the National Day Parade can be held against a backdrop of the Singapore skyline. It was decided that the floating platform would also be used for other major events. Construction began in March 2006 and the floating platform was completed in April 2007.
The platform hosted its first National Day Parade in 2007. It was also the venue for the opening and closing ceremony of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics held in Singapore. For the first National Day Parade there, only 54,000 tickets were available, but it drew some 470,000 applications.
The National Day Parade was held at the floating platform from 2007, except in 2015 and 2016, but makes a comeback in 2017. On 30 October, 2017, Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, announced that the platform will be renamed NS Square, from its current name of The Float@Marina Bay. "Its permanence, and prominence, in Marina Bay, will reflect the central role national service plays in our lives."

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
