Old Airport Road Food Centre, Singapore

Old Airport Road Food CentreOld Airport Road Food Centre (7 July 2011)

Old Airport Road Food Centre (GPS: 1.30824, 103.88582) is one of the older hawker centres in Singapore. The two storey hawker centre in Geylang was built in 1973. Since its early days, the ground floor is devoted to food stalls while the upper floor is occupied by stalls selling garments, watches and household necessities.

I remember visiting this hawker centre for the first time in 1978 with my eldest brother, when we went to Singapore for the Billy Graham evangelistic campaign. Since then, I have been back in 2011 and 2017.

2017 Visit

On my 2017 visit to Singapore, I happened to stay at a friend's apartment at Dakota Crescent, so the Old Airport Road Food Centre is a convenient place for me to find food. I visited it a number of times during this visit.

After my meal, I went to the upper floor of the complex. The last time I went up there was in 1978, which is thirty-nine years ago. It brings back memories of a time when I was much younger, but the stalls have not changed much in terms of merchandise. Basically, it's just cheap everyday items such as slippers and umbrellas. Take a look.

2011 Visit

I visited the Old Airport Road Food Centre with my wife on 7 July 2011. We took the MRT there. At that time the Circle Line had newly opened. We had the Katong laksa, the Tiong Bahru Lor Mee and the oyster omelette.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.

To get to know me better, do follow me on Facebook!
