Oldham Lane is a minor road in downtown
Singapore. It is within the
Museum Planning Area, in Postal District 9. The lane connects
Handy Road to
Orchard Road. Traffic flow is in a single direction from the former to the latter.
According to
Singapore Street Names1, Oldham Lane was named after Bishop William Oldham (1854-1937), the first Methodist missionary to arrive in Malaya. He got to Singapore in 1885 and set up the first Methodist Church there. Bishop Oldham also founded the Anglo Chinese School in 1886. The school was originally at 70
Amoy Street. It was later moved to
Coleman Street.
