One Raffles Place, Singapore (28 July 2017)
One Raffles Place (GPS: 1.28449, 103.85107) is a skyscraper in downtown Singapore. It is located at
Raffles Place in the
Downtown Core. Formerly known as
OUB Centre, One Raffles Place is the first of the three skyscrapers in Singapore to reach the height of 280 meters (919 feet), and was the tallest building in the world outside North America when it was completed in 1986, surpassing
South Korea's
63 Building completed a year earlier. It was eventually surpassed by the
Bank of China Tower in
Hong Kong. The architect was Kenzo Tange. Since then, it has been pushed down to second position behind
Tanjong Pagar Centre.
One Raffles Place is across the road from
UOB Plaza and
Republic Plaza, the other two skyscrapers of the same height. It has 63 storeys above ground and four basement levels.
One Raffles Place is next to the
Raffles Place MRT Station. The renaming of OUB Centre to One Raffles Place was officially carried out after another 38-storey tower was constructed next to OUB Centre, so the OUB Centre Mall had to be renovated to accommodate it. The new tower was designed by Kenzo Tange's son Paul. It stands at a height of 205 meters. The tower adds some 350,000 square feet of office space to the Central Business District.
