Oxley Road is a minor road in
River Valley, Singapore. It is a narrow two-lane road linking
Orchard Road to
River Valley Road, and forming a junction on its west side with
Lloyd Road.
Oxley Road and related roads in the area, among them
Oxley Rise, Oxley Walk and Oxley Garden, were all named after Dr Thomas Oxley, a wealthy surgeon who owned a vast nutmeg plantation known as Oxley Estate. The estate was bounded by
River Valley Road,
Tank Road (much longer in the 19th century than what you would see of it today), Orchard Road and
Grange Road.

District 09.
Dr Oxley had come to settle in Singapore from Penang. He took the position of Senior Surgeon of the Straits Settlement in 1844. A keen botanist, he was one of the founding members of the Agricultural and Horticultural Society. Other roads within his estate includes Grange Road and
Killiney Road.
