Planning Areas are the neighbourhoods or townships in Singapore, as divised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. There are a total of 55 planning areas in the island state. They are divided into five regions namely Central Region, East Region, North Region, North-East Region and South Region.

The Central Region covers 132.7 sq km and has a population of 903,100 people (2006). It is the second most densely populated of the five urban planning regions of Singapore. The Central Region comprises 22 planning areas of which 11 are within the Central Business District, also called the Central Area, and another 11 outside it. The biggest planning area in the Central Region is Bukit Merah. Planning areas in the Central Region are Bishan, Bukit Merah, Bukit Timah, Downtown Core, Geylang, Kallang, Marina East, Marina South, Marine Parade, Museum, Newton, Novena, Orchard, Outram, Queenstown, River Valley, Rochor, Singapore River, Southern Islands, Straits View, Tanglin, and Toa Payoh.

The East Region covers 93.1 sq km and has a population of 674,000 people (2006 estimate). It is the location of Changi Airport, which takes up about 25% of the area. The East Region comprises 6 planning areas as listed below. It has 195,000 homes and 580 hectares of green space. Presently the smallest planning area in this region is Changi Bay. Bedok is the largest planning area in the East Region as well as within Singapore. Planning areas in the East Region are Bedok, Changi, Changi Bay, Pasir Ris, Paya Lebar and Tampines.

The North Region is the northernmost part of mainland Singapore. It covers 97.3 sq km and has a population of 472,000 people (2006 estimate), making it the least densely populated of the five regions. Much of the North Region is covered by forested land and used as a water catchment area although sections nearer the coast have been earmarked for future development. Due to its proximity to Johor Bahru, the North Region may enjoy spillover effect of property interest from across the border.

The NOrth Region is divided into eight planning areas which are Central Water Catchment, Lim Chu Kang, Mandai, Sembawang, Simpang, Sungei Kadut, Woodlands and Yishun.

The North-East Region is surrounded by the East Region, Central Region, North Region and the Straits of Johor. It covers 141.1 sq km and has a population of 696,000 people (2006 estimate). The population here is expected to continue growing rapidly with the development of a number of new townships here such as Punggol and Sengkang. There are 210,000 homes in this region and 670 hectares of green space. The biggest town here is Hougang. The planning areas in this region are Ang Mo Kio, Hougang, North-Eastern Islands, Punggol and Seletar.

The West Region is the biggest among the five regions of Singapore. It occupies 201.3 sq km, accounting for 29% of the total land area of the island nation. The West Region has a population of 851,000 people (2006 estimate). Its biggest town is Jurong West. Close to half the area of West Region is taken up by the Western Water Catchment area which also includes the live-firing area of the Singapore Armed Forces. The planning areas in this region are Boon Lay, Bukit Batok, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Clementi, Jurong East, Jurong West, Pioneer, Tengah, Tuas, Western Islands and Western Water Catchment.
