Prince Edward Road, Singapore (27 July 2017)
Prince Edward Road is a road in the southern part of the
Central Business District of Singapore. It runs in a single direction from east to west, starting at Marine Station Road, and ending at
Anson Road. In between it makes an intersection with
Shenton Way.
Prince Edward Road was named in honor of Edward, the Prince of Wales (who later reigned as King Edward VII, abdicated, and was titled The Duke of Windsor for the remainder of his life), who was visiting Singapore with Lord Louis Mountbatten in 1922. The prince officiated the Malaya-Borneo Exhibition, at that time the grandest exhibition ever held in Singapore. It was sited at the newly reclaimed land between the new sea wall and Robinson Road, the location of Shenton Way today.
