Punggol MRT Station, Singapore
Punggol MRT/LRT Station CP4/NE17/PTC (GPS: 1.4052, 103.90225) is an underground station of the
Singapore MRT in
Punggol. It serves as the terminus of the
North East Line after the
Sengkang MRT Station (NE16) and also an interchange with the elevated
Punggol LRT Line.
Punggol is located in Singapore Postal
District 19.
The Punggol MRT Station was initially planned to remain unoperational when the North East Line was drawn in 1996. That was due to the foreseen low passenger ridership of the area. However, but the time the station was ready, the surrounding area has seen much housing development, particularly Punggol 21, and so the station was opened on 20 June 2003, along with 15 other stations of the North East Line.
