Rochor Beancurd House, Singapore

Rochor Beancurd HouseRochor Beancurd House (27 July 2017)

Rochor Beancurd House (GPS: 1.31491, 103.89072) is a chain of dessert shops in Singapore. As of September 2017, it has three outlets - at Geylang Road, Balestier Road and Upper Thomson Road.

Interestingly, despite the name, there isn't an outlet at Rochor Road. Nevertheless, the story of Rochor Beancurd House of course started at Rochor Road, where the business was established by Koh Kun Ming in the 1950s, when he was still a teenager. Originally operating from a fixed location, Kun Ming found that he could make more sale by becoming an itinerant hawker moving from place to place on his pushcart. And this was so, until the government outlawed itinerant hawkers. Since then, the business moved into a permanent location once more.

The main outlet is the one at Geylang Road - the one I visited. There is also another outlet at Balestier Road, and one more at Upper Thomson Road. The business has also reached the third generation, and is now helmed by Jason Koh, the grandson of Koh Kun Ming.

The main item at Rochor Beancurd House is naturally the sweet beancurd dessert, which is available hot or cold. This is available in several variations, including with grass jelly and even Japanese Green Tea.

Apart from the beancurd dessert, the stall also sells soya bean drink and various side orders such as fritter dough, butterfly bun, salted bun and other Chinese traditional doughbreads.

My visit to Rochor Beancurd House

I visited Rochor Beancurd House on 27 July, 2017. My friend KF Seetoh decided to take me out for supper, so we ended up going for a walk and ending up at Geylang Road, where we stopped by this beancurd shop. We ordered the beancurd and the fritter dough. This was the first time that I had beancurd with fritter dough together (back in Penang, we eat fritter dough with almond cream, but that's another story). The beancurd is very smooth, and combines nicely with the fritter dough.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
