Seton Close, Singapore (2 August 2017)
Seton Close is a minor road in the
Tanglin planning area of
Singapore. It is accessed from
Tanglin Road. Seton Close has a few government-built bungalows which are recognized for their architectural style. Some of these residential houses are today occupied by embassies and diplomats.
Seton Close was named after Frederick Seton James (1870-1934), the Colonial Secretary (1916-1924) and Food Controller (Dec 1918 to May 1919) for Malaya. In his capacity as food controller, he went all over Malaya urging its citizens of various races to be self supporting in food production. Following the departure of Sir Arthur Young, Seton was again appointed Colonial Secretary before being transferred to be Governor of Windward Islands, a position he held from 1924 to his retirement in 1930.
