Somerset MRT Station (27 July 2017)
Somerset MRT Station (GPS: 1.3005, 103.83863; NS23) is an underground station of the
Singapore MRT serving the
North-South Line. It was first opened on 12 December, 1987, and was the first station to be upgraded in 2002. The station was named after
Somerset Road, which in turn was named after English novelist William Somerset Maugham, who spent time in the Malay peninsula and Borneo, including some years in Singapore, in the 1930's.
The Somerset MRT Station is located underground between Somerset Road and
Orchard Road. It is between the
Orchard MRT Station and
Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. Somerset Station has two exits. Exit A emerges to
Comcentre, Singapore Power Building and Skate Park, while Exit B emerges to
313@Somerset, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard,
The Centrepoint Shopping Centre,
Hilton Singapore Orchard,
The Heeren Shops, Faber House,
Orchard Central,
Orchard Point,
Peranakan Place, Emerald Hill and
Orchard Plaza.
