St Martin's Drive, Singapore

St Martin's Drive, SingaporeSt Martin's Drive, Singapore (2 August 2017)

St Martin's Drive is a residential street in the Tanglin area of Singapore's District 10. The road which has two branches is accessed via Tanglin Road. Renowned for its tranquil environment and proximity to key city amenities, the street hosts several upscale residential developments.

According to Singapore Street Names, St Martin's Drive got its name from Michael Sarkies Martin (1859-1922), an Armenian living in a house called Eskbank. The house sits on a 6-acre plot facing Tanglin Road. The house is no longer there. The land has since been subdivided and redeveloped.1

What's in the Name offers a completely different account of St Martin's Drive. According to this book, it probably got its name from a street of the same name in Covent Garden, London, which runs from the St Martin-in-the-Fields Church. But the book also mentions that this road cuts through the original estate of the Armenian Martin family.2

One prominent establishment on St. Martin's Drive is St. Martin Residence, a freehold condominium situated at 2 Saint Martin's Drive, Singapore 257989. Completed in 2001 by Habitat Properties Group, this low-rise development comprises 82 units spread across four floors. Residents enjoy facilities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, Jacuzzi, sauna, and a barbecue area. The residence is within walking distance to Orchard MRT Station and is close to various educational institutions, including Chinalingua School and ISS International School.3

Another significant development is St. Martin's Apartment, located at 1 Saint Martin's Drive, Singapore 257988. This freehold condominium, completed in 1986, consists of a single block with 16 units. The property is a short walk from Orchard Boulevard MRT Station and is near schools such as The Excelerate Program and Creative Horizons Language Centre.4

Tanglin Residences, situated at 23 Saint Martin's Drive, Singapore 258004, is another notable condominium in the vicinity. Developed by CapitaLand Residential Ltd and completed in 2005, this freehold property comprises 43 units. It is accessible via Orchard Boulevard MRT Station and is in proximity to primary schools like Alexandra Primary School and Singapore Chinese Girls' Primary School.5

The area also features luxury retail establishments, such as the Richard Mille boutique at 1 Saint Martin's Drive, offering exclusive timepieces to discerning clientele.6

St. Martin's Drive's strategic location offers residents easy access to Singapore Botanic Gardens, Tanglin Mall, and Orchard Road, providing a blend of serene living and urban convenience.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.

To get to know me better, do follow me on Facebook!
